Our Community

The Lewis & Clark County Community has a rich and diverse history. A travel stop on the Missouri River for centuries, our diverse community’s economy includes mining, ranching, manufacturing, logging, government (Helena is the state capitol), farming, transportation, military and recreation. While Helena is the largest city in the county, a number of other communities are spread across the county.

Augusta 1913

Helena is at the very southern bottom of the county and interacts with communities in Jefferson and Broadwater Counties. Augusta, some 76 miles north of Helena, is the northern most community in the county. Other communities in Lewis & Clark County include Craig, Canyon Creek, Wolf Creek, Fort Harrison, Unionville, East Helena, Lincoln, Gilman, Marysville, York, Milford Colony, Canyon Ferry, Dearborn and Rimini. Large ranches include the Oxbow, the Sieben Livestock Company and the Sieben Ranch Company.

We are a community of historic organizations and invite you to visit other local historical societies and museums located throughout Lewis and Clark County and the surrounding area:
